Workstream visas are specifically designed for skilled workers with the required skills and education that Australia values or who have a sponsorship from an Australian employer, relative or a nomination from the Australian state or territory government.

Here are the two best-skilled visa pathways through which you can work and live in Australia as a permanent resident along with your family:

Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189)- It's a permanent visa type designed for those aspiring migrants who want to work and live in Australia permanently with their family. This visa subclass doesn't require you to have a primary sponsorship from any Australian Territory or State Government or a nomination for a relative living in Australia as a citizen or PR holder. To be eligible, you must be invited to apply and be age 45 years or below to get an invitation.

Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190)- This is also a permanent visa type designed for candidates with a State or Territory Government nomination. Moreover, to qualify, you must age 45 years or below and show the desired skills for the nominated occupation.

Basic eligibility requirements

To apply under any of the two visa subclasses, you must meet the essential selection requirements as listed below:

  • You must be 45 years or below at the time of getting an invitation to apply
  • You must have a minimum competent level of English at the time of getting an invitation
  • You must get your skills and qualifications assessment report done by the relevant assessing authority for your nominated occupation
  • At the time of nominating an occupation, you must meet the specific skills and qualifications
  • You must obtain minimum of 65 points on submitting your EOI online in SkillSelect.
  • You must undergo a medical examination as evidence that you are mentally and physically fit.
  • You must get a character certificate to prove that you don't have any past criminal record
  • You must create and submit an expression of interest (EOI) online via SkillSelect as a skilled foreign worker
